TASTING NOTE

Montferland Iessel Wit 2019

white wine

Our rating

6 /10
The nose of the wine is somewhat misleading: due to the high aroma intensity of tropical fruit and candies you would expect a sweet wine. When you take your first sip, you’ll discover that this is not the case. The wine is fairly thin, has a strong bitterness and misses out on length and complexity. The acids are also a bit harsh and not well integrated. Unfortunate, because the nose was very promising!

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 24 Aug 2021
Appearance
A clear, lemon-colored wine with pale color intensity.
Nose
The nose is clean with a youthful development. Aroma intensity is quite high (medium+) with characteristics of sweet candies, tropical fruits and citrus. We smell sweet pear, candies, grapefruit but also some green scents.
Palate
The wine is dry with a medium level of alcohol (13%) and medium+ acidity. The body and flavor intensity are both medium- with characteristics of citrus and yellow fruits. We taste lemon, grapefruit, green apple and a bitterness we cannot really define.
Quality Assessment
The wine has a very fruity and compelling nose but is fairly thin in the mouth, with a strong bitterness. It misses out on length and complexity. The acids are also a bit hard and not very well integrated. The wine is of acceptable quality. Ready to drink now, not suitable for further ageing.
