The Gewürztraminer was first mentioned under this name by Johann Christian Butcher (1789-1852) in 1827 as a rare variety from the Rheingau. The vine is particularly vulnerable to viral diseases what in the meantime through selection of resistant Clone was solved. (https://glossary.wein-plus.eu/gewurztraminer)
