THE TASTING PANEL

The tasting notes on this website are prepared by a small, diverse panel of experienced tasters. The panel consists of wine professionals, viticulturists and experienced wine tasters and is completely independent. The panel avoids any outside influence or conflict of interest.

Approximately every 3 weeks, a blind tasting is organized in an intimate setting, where 6 to 8 wines from different vineyards in the Netherlands are tasted and discussed together. The tasting is performed according to the international WSET tasting method. This ensures that the reviews are consistent, even when different panel members are present that specific day. Within the panel we come to a joint conclusion that will be included on the website.

My passion and enthusiasm for wine goes back many years. I have taken several wine courses (SDEN level 2, SDEN level 3 and WSET level 3). I mainly specialized in Italian wines and I have since visited many vineyards throughout Italy during my vacations. I became a member of the The Hague Municipal Vineyard in 2017 to learn more about the wine making process.

Kirsten Bouwens
Experienced wine enthusiast

A few years ago I obtained my WSET level 2 diploma. Since then, I am very enthusiastic about tasting wine. Courses are generally directed at the bigger wine regions, but as I’ve lived in Slovenia in 2017 and 2018, I’ve been able to explore that region as well. Now I’m very excited to see what the Netherlands have to offer!

Wine buyer at Joie de Vin, registered viticulturist

I have been a registered viticulturist at the Nederlandse Wijnacademie (Dutch Wine Academy) since 2019. Even today, I regularly take additional courses and master classes through Verenigde Vinologen Nederland. Dutch wines are a rapidly developing product segment and I find it fascinating to keep myself informed of ‘our’ wines and wine makers. It’s great to taste the improvement in wine making year after year!

Experienced wine enthousiast

During my very first wine course in 2010, I discovered that I enjoy learning everything about wine and wine making about as much as drinking wine. Ever since, I look for those special wine experiences and I try to learn something from each glass of wine I drink. With the WSET4 diploma as my next target, I seek out wine tasting groups that explore ‘unconventional’ wine regions. The Netherlands is one of those unconventional regions. I started out as a skeptic, but I have since discovered many interesting wines from our own country.
