TASTING NOTE

Wijngaard Hesselink Poort van Winterswijk rood 2016

fortified wine

Our rating

9 /10
A magnificent wine, made of 100% Regent grapes: powerful with lovely notes of port wine and sweet black tea. The wine has tension, beautiful acidity, and tannins and a fine balance. This is something very special and exciting for the Netherlands!

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 16 Dec 2024
Appearance
A clear, garnet colored wine with deep color intensity
Nose
The nose is clear and fully developed with medium+ aroma intensity with vegetal and fruity characteristics and specified aromas of eucalyptus, prunes, black cherries, cedarwood and some earthy tones.
Palate
A medium-sweet wine with medium- acidity, medium alcohol (for fortified wine!), medium tannins and high flavor intensity. A broad flavor palette like Pedro Ximenes port wine with the tertiary tastes clearly in the foreground. We taste sweet black raisins, plum jam, sweet prunes, dried figs, cassis, chestnut honey, honeybush tea, laurel, pine and caramel.
Quality Assessment
The wine has tension, beautiful acidity, and tannins. A fine balance. Very good!
