TASTING NOTE

Wijngaard Hesselink Achterhoekse Chardonnay Barrique 2023

white wine

Our rating

7 /10
A wood-aged, full-bodied Chardonnay with a strong cedar wood flavor. The wine has beautiful yellow fruit but still a lot of oak, which isn’t yet fully integrated.
Our advice: wait a year and try again!

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 23 Oct 2025
Appearance
A clear, lemon-colored wine with medium color intensity.
Nose
The nose is clean and youthful with pronounced aroma intensity and characteristics of oak aging and yellow fruit. We smell cedarwood, vanilla, pear, apple and apricot.
Palate
A dry wine with medium acidity, medium+ alcohol, and medium+ body. FLavor intensity is medium+ with characteristics of cedarwood, alcohol, yellow fruit, citrus and stone fruit. We taste cedarwood, Elstar apple, apricot, lemon, lychee, gooseberry and some bitterness of wood.
Quality Assessment
There are no flaws in the wine, but it’s not quite balanced. The oak integration isn’t quite right. It’s questionable whether the wine will improve much given the low acidity. But our advice: wait a year and try again in a year.
