TASTING NOTE

Wilgenhorst WW Wit barrique 2018

white wine

Our rating

6.5 /10
An aromatic white wine with a remarkable smell and taste of ripe yellow apples. Quite juicy with characteristics of dried yellow fruit, flowers and oak. Although the wine is quite pleasant to drink, we got the impression that both acidity, alcohol and oak aren’t fully integrated, which causes some imbalance in the wine and a bitterness on the tongue.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 15 Dec 2021
Appearance
A clear, lemon-gold colored wine with medium+ color intensity.
Nose
The wine has a clean, youthful nose, a medium+ aroma intensity with characteristics of yellow fruit, stone-fruit, flowers and oak. We smell ripe apples, apple juice, grape juice, nectarine, dried apricots, light tones of honey, lemongrass and a hint of pepper.
Palate
The wine is dry with a medium level of alcohol (12,5%) and medium – acidity. The wine is medium- bodied and quite expressive with a medium+ flavor intensity. It shows flavor characteristics of stone fruit, yellow fruit and oak. We taste apple juice, apricots, and cedar wood. The wine has a bit of a sharp (chemical?) bitterness on the tongue. The ending is of medium length.
Quality Assessment
The wine is quite pleasant to drink, but we got the impression that both acidity and alcohol aren’t fully integrated, which causes a bitterness on the tongue. The oak tones are rather strong and as well not completely balanced in the way they should.
