More about Cabernet Blanc

Description

Grape Type:

The white grape variety (also VB 91-26-1) is an interspecific new cross between Cabernet Sauvignon x unknown resistance partners. The hybrid was crossed in 1991 by the winery owner Valentin Blattner in Soyhières in the Swiss canton of Jura, and then selected in the Freytag nursery in Neustadt/Lachen-Speyerdorf in the Palatinate (Germany). The vine is resistant to frost, botrytis and both types of mildew, but tends to small berries (Millerandage). It produces aromatic, fragrant white wines with a taste somewhere between Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
