TASTING NOTE

Wijngaard Hesselink, Achterhoekse Regent Barrique 2018

red wine

Our rating

9 /10
One of the best Dutch wines we have tasted. Lots of beautiful black fruit, tobacco and spices. Beautifully concentrated with well integrated wood and a beautiful long aftertaste.
Delicious to combine in autumn or winter with game or a Moroccan tagine.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 11 Oct 2023
Appearance
A clear, garnet colored wine with medium+ color intensity.
Nose
The nose is clean and developing with medium+ aroma intensity with fruity, spicy and earthy characteristics. We smell blackberries, plums, cherries, stewed red cabbage, cinnamon, bay leaves, cardamom, eucalyptus, leaves, vegetables and toast.
Palate
The wine is dry, with medium acidity, medium alcohol, medium- tannin and medium body. Flavour intensity is medium+ with characteristics of stewed fruit, spices and herbs. We taste cherry, rosehip, sweet salmiac, tobacco, bay-leaf, leather and some tea.
Quality Assessment
A beautiful concentrated wine, well integrated wood and a beautiful long aftertaste. Ready to drink but can also age well for years to come.
