TASTING NOTE

Wijngaard Hesselink Regent Barrique 2019

red wine

Our rating

9 /10
A beautiful red wine with a fine structure and pleasant mouthfeel. Full of flavor and beautifully balanced acidity. Black fruit, chocolate, tobacco and cedar wood rush out of the glass. Delicious with stews, roasted eggplant and a nice steak.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 6 Dec 2023
Appearance
A clear, ruby colored wine with medium+ color intensity
Nose
The nose is clean and developing with medium+ aroma intensity and characteristics of ripe red fruit, oak and earthy tones. We smell ripe, black cherries, plumps, cranberry, cedar wood, sweet tobacco, eucalyptus and wet stones.
Palate
The wine is dry, with medium+ alcohol, medium acidity, medium tannin and medium+ body. Flavour intensity is medium+ with characteristics of black fruit and vegetables and flavours of black cherries, berries, prunes, caramel, liquorice, bay leaf, dark chocolate, smoke and cedar wood. The aftertaste is of medium length.
Quality Assessment
A very good wine. Ready to drink but still a bit closed and could still use 6 months to a year bottle ageing.
