TASTING NOTE

Satin Noir 2017

red wine

Our rating

7.5 /10
This wine of the uncommon grape Satin Noir offers a remarkable, pronounced aroma-intensity and a very extensive aroma palate. We smell forest fruit, dried red fruits, cedarwood, hay and herbaceous characteristics. The taste is a bit greenish with flavors of blackcurrant, sour red cherries, liquorice, thyme, green bell pepper, and eucalyptus. The wine is a bit low in alcohol and has a low level of tannins, and it therefore lacks some structure in its taste palate that would make it a truly outstanding wine. We got the impression that the grapes might not be fully ripe or that the vines were still young. Nevertheless, a well-made and pleasant red wine to drink, for example combined with pecorino or frittata.

Detailed Tasting Notes

Wine tasting: 6 Nov 2020
Appearance
A clear, ruby-colored wine with a deep color intensity.
Nose
The wine has a clean, developing nose, with a pronounced intensity and very extensive aroma palate. We smell forest fruit, dried red fruits, cedarwood, hay and herbaceous characteristics with specified aromas of blackberries, black currants, dried plums and figs, pine wood, relatively pronounced rustic aromas of stables and leather, black olives, sage and bay leaves.
Palate
A dry wine, with medium acidity, medium- alcohol, medium body and low tannins. The wine has a medium+ flavor intensity of not quite ripe red fruit as well as green/vegetal, herbaceous, and spicy characteristics. We taste blackcurrant, sour red cherries, licorice, thyme, green bell pepper, and eucalyptus.
Quality Assessment
A good wine, ready to drink now but will not improve with ageing due to the low level of acidity and tannins. At 11.5% the wine is a bit low in alcohol. Combined with a low level of tannins make that the wine lacks just that bit of structure in its taste palate. We got the impression that the grapes might not have fully ripened or that the vines were still young.
